The Haryana Education Department has decided to implement activity-based learning in government schools. The main reason behind this decision is to make children’s learning full of fun and happiness. Another objective is to ensure that no student in Haryana fails in the board exams.

The Additional Chief Secretary School Education Department, P K Das said that they want the students to enjoy going to school. Instead of just rote learning the students will get to learn from the various activities. Workshops for teachers will be held to prepare them for the same. Activity-based learning will help to improve the quality of students as they will develop an interest in learning.

Aim of the activity-based learning model

● In order to provide the students knowledge about mathematics and science experts from the domain will be invited to interact with the students and provide them better understanding of the subjects.

● Along with skill development creating awareness among the students is also one of the main objectives. Spreading the awareness about the ill-effects of the improper disposal of plastic bags in the surrounding areas is suggested.

● The various activities will help to instill a sense of responsibility in the minds of the students.

● For the students who are weak in studies talents and vocational prospects will be identified. There are students who are weak in studies but may be good in other activities. These activities should be considered while grading the personality of the student. Around 20 different activities will be started in the schools. Even the physically challenged students will be involved in the sports activities. The aim is to involve all the students in the activities they enjoy.

Measures

● Instead of following a tiresome study routine and memorising, the education department aims to introduce activity-based learning programs to make learning more interesting.

● The new model will be implemented across all Government schools as a pilot project as decided by the Haryana Government

● Beside activity-based learning Saturdays will be devoted to extracurricular and fun-oriented activities only. This will help to groom the creativity of the school children.

● The education department had earlier identified the necessity of an activity-based learning model for schools.

There are 1666 higher education Colleges in Haryana that offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate level courses in the Science, Commerce and Arts streams. Students can choose a course they are interested in pursuing. The admission to the courses is based on merit and entrance exam score.
